If you’re coming down to Miami to set sail on your cruise, that doesn’t mean you won’t have a little time to explore the city itself. If you haven’t considered it, then you definitely should. Miami is full of fun and learning for the whole family. There are fairs and festivals almost every weekend and there are more restaurants to eat at that you’ll know what to do with. Maybe you haven’t thought about it because you don’t know what kinds of things there are to do, so we thought we’d help out. Here are some of our favorite places and events that are coming up that we think you should check out.

Kid Friendly, Mother Approved

If you have little ones (or way too cool to talk to you ones), Miami has some really fun activities that you can do together as a family. One of the best ways to spend your time down here, if you’re a family that loves animals, is at the Miami Zoo. Right now, there’s an exhibit that every kid, both young and old, will enjoy. It’s called Creature of Habitat and it’s an entire exhibit made out of Legos! This is happening now through June 22 and it features a polar bear, a gorilla, and many panoramic scenes filled with Lego animals.

If you’re looking for something a little less wild, you could take the family down to the Museum of Contemporary Art this weekend and check out Shorts 4 Kids. It’s a set of three plays, all about 10 minutes long, made just for kids. They tackle subjects like bullying and self-esteem and they are followed by a question and answer session. Plus, this museum is located in the Key of Biscayne which means that you get to see a whole lot of water on the way.

Get Some Culture

If your family has any art lovers, you couldn’t have picked a better weekend to be in Miami. There is not one, but TWO art festivals going on, both of which feature local artists. Open March 1- 2, your family can visit one or both! The Las Olas Art Fair features more than 300 local artists in Fort Lauderdale. Or, if you choose the Celebration of Art in Miami, you get three stages with live entertainment and games and activities for the kids. Either choice you make is sure to give you something beautiful to look at and some quality time with your loved ones.

Date Night

If you’re looking for a few kid-free options for your time in Miami, there are lots of options for you. If you want a night out of dancing, fun, and maybe a few adult beverages, you should check out Story. Recently voted the best nightclub of the year, Story is the kind of place where you can go for some fresh adult fun. It sports lounge seating, a huge dance floor, and multiple bars for you to visit. Plus, there are live DJs and they don’t settle for anything less than the best. If you think you might be more in the mood for a little dinner, there is a new upscale Italian restaurant that is a must try. The new Cavalli Miami Restaurant and Lounge is the perfect place for a romantic evening. It has an extensive menu created by head chef Stefano Mazzi and a very long and impressive bar menu.

As you can see, there are lots of options for you and your family in South Florida. You could spend an entire day or evening just walking around and checking out the scenery without even getting to one of these fun places. So, if you haven’t already, you should seriously think about adding a day or two to your trip to enjoy the things Miami has to offer. Whatever you choose for your time here, be it artistic, family friendly, or just for the grown-ups, you’ll be sure to have a good time. We can’t wait for you to visit!
